Quick answer

For tattoo removal in Penang, book a doctor-led aesthetic clinic such as A.M Clinic in George Town, A Klinik or a KO Skin Specialist branch. Few Penang clinics publish prices, so expect a quote after consultation. Most tattoos need 5 to 12 laser sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart.

Finding tattoo removal in Penang is harder than it looks. Search results and clinic directories list plenty of names, yet many of those listings are old, thin or impossible to confirm. One clinic on a well-known directory no longer has a working website. So for this guide, we only list a clinic when its own website confirms the service and we could match it to a second source. We checked every clinic in October 2026.

Verified tattoo removal clinics in Penang

We list the clinics below in no particular order. None paid to appear. Where a clinic does not publish a price or a device, we say so rather than guess.

A.M Clinic Penang

Area
88-N Jalan Masjid Negeri, Taman Greenview (Green Lane), George Town
Lasers named
Pico laser (model not named); its FAQ compares pico with Q-switched
Published price
Pico treatments overall listed at RM600–RM7,500; no separate tattoo price
Doctors
Dr Alyse Lim Hooi Xin (Medical Director) and Dr Syed Abdul Hannan Alsagoff, both described as LCP-certified

A.M Clinic says tattoo removal usually takes 6 to 10 sessions or more. It also warns that cosmetic and light pigments may darken under the laser, which is worth knowing if you want old brow work removed. The group also runs branches in KL and Johor Bahru, so you could continue treatment if you move.

A Klinik

Area
Penang and KL; branch list on the clinic's website
Lasers named
None named on the tattoo page; a separate page covers its PicoPro laser
Published price
Not listed; quote through WhatsApp or consultation
Doctors
Founder Dr Aaron Low Khar Weoi and co-founder Dr Angeline Hun Zi Ling, both described as LCP-certified

A Klinik runs clinics in both Penang and KL. Its removal page explains plainly why one session is never enough: the body needs time between visits to flush out the broken ink. Ask which branch is nearest and which laser that branch uses for tattoos.

KO Skin Specialist (Dr Ko Clinic Penang)

Area
87-C Jalan Kelawai, George Town; Kompleks Auto World, Juru (Perai); the group site also lists Bayan Lepas and Bukit Mertajam
Lasers named
Group site: picosecond, Q-switched Nd:YAG, fractional CO2, Er:YAG and pulsed dye lasers
Published price
Not listed
Doctors
Group led by a consultant dermatologist; Penang branch doctors listed on the Erufu Care directory

KO is a large Klang-based group with several Penang branches on both sides of the bridge. Its wide range of lasers helps with mixed colours and scarred skin. However, the group site lists devices for the whole chain, so confirm which machines your branch has.

O2 Klinik

Area
National chain of 15+ branches, including Penang
Lasers named
Not named on the removal page
Published price
Not listed
Doctors
Site says LCP-certified doctors perform treatment

O2 Klinik gives clear session estimates by size, from 3 to 5 for a tattoo smaller than a 50 sen coin to 12 to 15 or more for a sleeve. Because it does not name its laser, ask what the Penang branch uses before you commit.

Clinics we did not list, and why

Several other Penang names appear on directories such as WhatClinic and Erufu Care. For instance, The K Klinik on Jalan Kelawai and Aessence Clinic in Tanjung Tokong both have directory profiles with named doctors. However, we could not find their own websites confirming tattoo removal, so we left them out for now. Dr Chong Clinic has Penang branches on its own site, yet its homepage does not mention tattoo removal.

We also left out beauty academies and salons that advertise laser tattoo removal. Under Ministry of Health rules, laser aesthetic work belongs in licensed healthcare facilities run by credentialed doctors. If a clinic you like is missing, ask it for its doctor's name and LCP status. Then you can judge it yourself.

What tattoo removal in Penang costs

None of the Penang clinics above publishes a per-session tattoo price. As a guide, clinics in KL publish prices from about RM288 per session for small tattoos to RM1,500–RM2,500 for large ones. Penang prices may differ, so ask for a written quote. Our removal price guide shows how a full course adds up, with worked examples.

Planning sessions around Penang life

Removal takes many visits, so location matters. If you live on the mainland, a branch in Perai or Bukit Mertajam saves a bridge crossing each time. On the island, George Town clinics around Green Lane and Jalan Kelawai suit people living in the city centre.

Sun is the other big factor. Penang's beaches at Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bungah are tempting, but the American Academy of Dermatology advises keeping treated skin out of the sun for three months. So time your sessions away from beach trips and festivals spent outdoors. Also, do not pick crusts, because picking raises the risk of scarring.

Local tip

Fading a tattoo for a cover-up takes fewer sessions than full removal. George Town has many established tattoo studios, so ask an artist how much fading they need before you start laser. Our Penang tattoo shops guide lists studios we have checked.

Questions to ask a Penang clinic

  • Who will treat me, and does that doctor hold an LCP for laser procedures?
  • Which laser does this branch use, and does it cover my ink colours?
  • How many sessions do you expect, and what is the price per session?
  • How will you adjust settings for my skin type?
  • Can you do a test spot first, especially on old brow or lip tattoos?

For more on risks for darker skin, see DermNet's guide to tattoo skin reactions, which notes that most tattoos need 5 to 12 treatments and that full clearance is not always possible.
